Neuromodulators

Neuromodulators are some of the most widely used injectable treatments available today. These products are used to address muscle contractions, which are the most common causes of wrinkles and fine lines. Over the course of a person’s lifetime, they make countless facial expressions when they speak, eat, laugh, smile, or frown. These facial expressions lead to the formation of wrinkles and fine lines, especially in areas like the brows, forehead, mouth, and eyes.
The four brands of neuromodulators we offer at Turquoise Springs Medical Spa, are formulated by the different manufacturers using a substance called botulinum toxin. Once this substance is injected into the muscles during a treatment session, the muscles are temporarily relaxed. This allows the skin above them to smooth and soften. Because the relaxation botulinum toxin that smooths wrinkles is only temporary, patients will follow up approximately every 3-4 months to maintain their smooth results.

Dermal Fillers
Turquoise Springs Medical Spa uses dermal fillers to enhance and restore facial volume for a beautiful, natural looking, more youthful version of yourself. As we age, our face loses volume as we lose the fat pads in the mid-face, the temples, the area under the eyes, and even the lips. Our skin loses collagen and hyaluronic acid, the two components that are the building blocks responsible for keeping our skin elastic and voluminous. Dermal fillers are used to plump up these areas and make them look restored to a younger time, and more natural. At Turquoise Springs, Dr. Murphy is an expert in using HA or Gel fillers for lip augmentation, cheek augmentation, lip reconstruction, temple fillers, jawline and chin enhancement, and reduction of deep nasal-labial folds. If used properly by an expert, dermal fillers can restore lost volume and saggy tissue, and prevent the need or desire for a face lift.
Over time, the cheek area begins to sag and form jowls, and folds. There are two benefits to using dermal fillers in the face. A young face is wide across the middle of the head and narrows toward the chin, like an upside down triangle. An aging face becomes more narrow through the middle of the face, and heavier at the bottom with hollowing around the mouth and lower cheeks.
The first benefit is the restoration of the lost volume. Second, the filler gives a lifting effect to the tissue, and helps reduce creases and wrinkles and moves the mass or width back to the middle of the face. Thus, a more youthful looking face.
When the cheeks look full and healthy, they appear more balanced with the chin and eyes. Many patients of Turquoise Springs Medical Spa are amazed by the results, enjoying their smoother complexion while maintaining the natural look of their facial expressions.
The lips balance the face as a whole, contributing to a nice smile, and are known as one of the most attractive facial features. Some patients have inherited genetically thin lips or have acquired cosmetic asymmetries of the lips due to photodamage or smoking. Lip fillers can be very successful at restoring structural augmentation, enhancing lip shape, recreating normal lip architecture, and restoring volume to either or both upper and lower lips.
Radiesse is used full strength as a filler, primarily for midface and jawline, and is a collagen stimulator as well as a filler.
Dermal Fillers are composed of a dissolvable gel-like substance that is injected into the dermal layer of the skin to restore volume loss and smooth wrinkles, creases, and folds. The most common FDA approved Hyaluronic Acid or HA (Gel) dermal fillers are a part of the Juvederm product line or the Restylane product line. We use products from both of these manufacturers at Turquoise Springs. Our experience will determine which dermal fillers best suit your needs based on what you want for an overall result. Many patients ask us how long they can expect dermal fillers to last. Depending on which filler you use, results can last anywhere from 6 months to up to 2 years before the substance is naturally removed by normal body processes. Most patients schedule a follow-up treatment within that first year when the filler begins to dissolve. Biostimulators
In this instance a biostimulator is meant to be a substance which is placed into the deeper areas of the dermal layer of the skin to stimulate the production of the components of collagen. Fibroblasts are the cells in the skin and connective tissue that produce collagen and elastin. Your body is constantly replenishing its natural supply to counteract the breakdown that occurs normally. Collagen provides structure to the skin and elastin provides stretchiness or elasticity. At Turquoise Springs, we stimulate collagen regeneration in many different ways with light and laser therapy, Microneedling with RF, Rejuvapen, threads, and even with supplements and advice about protecting the skin. However, we have two agents which are placed directly into the layers of the skin and actively “biostimulate” the production of new collagen and elastin by stimulating your fibroblasts.
Radiesse is used as a diluted form of the product mixed with saline and local anesthetic in proportions of 1:1 up to 1:4 and injected into the tissue of the neck, body, arms, legs, and hands to stimulate collagen.
Sculptra (PLLA Poly-L-Lactic Acid)
This is an FDA approved injectable which helps to gradually replace lost collagen, the most common protein in the body. It is used to form a framework to support cells and tissue. It can stimulate results which last up to two years. Sculptra helps restore the deep, underlying structure of the skin to diminish facial wrinkles.
Sculptra works with your body within the deep dermis to help revitalize collagen production and help restore your skin’s inner structure and volume. As the Sculptra or PLLA micro-particles are absorbed, they help stimulate collagen production. Rebuilt collagen strands begin gradually helping to restore facial volume and the look of fullness to wrinkles and folds. Sculptra can be used primarily on the face and temples, but also has indications for use on the buttocks, hips, and thighs.
Radiesse (CaHA- Calcium Hydroxylapatite)
Radiesse is a dermal filler used to plump up the skin and restore lost volume. Used at full strength it is excellent as a semi-permanent filler for mid-face, cheeks, and jawline. However, it is also superb when diluted with saline and local anesthetic and injected into the deeper dermal layers as a biostimulator for encouraging collagen production. Radiesse contains microspheres of Calcium Hydroxylapatite, which are stimulators to your fibroblasts and cause them to begin to form and produce elastin and collagen. Radiesse when diluted is called “Hyperdilute Radiesse” and can be injected using a cannula or small needles and the effect augmented with Secret RF (Microneedling with radiofrequency) or Rejuvapen. Dr. Murphy will usually dilute with saline and 2% lidocaine so the injection is practically painless. Treatment areas can be neck, décolletage, hands, arms, legs, buttocks, and abdomen

EzGEL PRF
Dr. Murphy is also able to capture bio stimulators within your body to stimulate the growth of collagen, to plump up tissue where volume has been lost, and make your skin look younger, smoother, and more elastic. EzGEL PRF is a way of taking a sample of your blood and transforming it into a gel which is loaded with bio stimulating factors from your body. This material which has been concentrated and prepared into a gel is then re-injected into the tissue to stimulate and fill to produce collagen and restore volume. This requires a sterile process of spinning your blood sample at high speed, separating off special components containing scores of tissue stimulating hormones and peptides and fibrin, and then heating and forming this into an albumen gel. There are no medications or chemicals added to this mixture and it is not manipulated or changed. It is all yours and all natural. The gel is then ready to inject back into your body as a natural “filler” for your tissue. PRF Gel is perfect for under eye or tear troughs, cheeks, jawline, lip lines, and naso-labial folds. It can be used alone or with Sculptra or Radiesse or with fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane gel fillers.
PDO Threads (Polydioxanone)
Threads are a minimally invasive treatment which involves placing strands of PDO threads into the dermal layer to stimulate collagen and tighten the skin. Threads can be smooth, twisted, or barbed and are used for different purposes as prescribed by your aesthetic physician. All threads are bio stimulators and promote the production of collagen and elastin. A PDO thread application is customized to your unique skin type, skin texture, and aesthetic goals. Smooth threads are used primarily where the desire is to stimulate skin to regenerate, become more supple and elastic, and to thicken with fresh, new collagen. Twisted threads are used for the same purpose, but for thicker tissue and for crevices and deeper folds. Lifting threads are for moving tissue and will be addressed under the INJECTABLES tab, but they are also bio stimulators. Threads
All threads stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, but smooth and twisted threads are used primarily for this purpose.
Lifting PDO Threads (Polydioxanone)
Threads are a minimally invasive treatment which involves placing strands of PDO threads into the dermal layer to move tissue and lift the tissue that has become saggy or has laxity. The barbed or lifting threads are also able to stimulate collagen and tighten the skin. Threads can be smooth, twisted, or barbed and are used for different purposes as prescribed by your aesthetic physician. All threads are bio stimulators and promote the production of collagen and elastin. A PDO thread application is customized to your unique skin type, skin texture, and aesthetic goals. However, lifting threads are used in specific tension vectors arranged by your aesthetic physician to make the tissue smoother and more youthful in appearance. An experienced practitioner who is skilled is much more important than the brand of thread or how many threads are placed. Lifting threads can be effectively placed to move tissue on the face, brow, jawline, neck, breasts, knees, abdomen, and upper arms. With proper technique and the use of local anesthetic it is a comfortable procedure and can be used in combination with other services like fillers, Sculptra, and PRF Gel for profound results. Frequently Asked Questions
How long do results last?
Botulinum toxin last for about 3 months depending on dose and whether or not it is used regularly. If you come in regularly or at least every 3 months the dose will likely decrease slightly over time and the effect will last slightly longer. With filler, duration is dependent on the product used and the tissue injected. Tissue which moves more, such as lips or areas around the mouth, tends to have shorter duration than less animated regions like mid face, temple, and tear trough regions.
Can I bring my own vials?
No. Turquoise Springs adheres to the strictest standards of the medical practice act and only uses the best products and medications. We make absolutely certain the substances injected and the medications we use are stored properly and manufactured with the highest standards determined by the FDA and pharmacy manufacturing professionals.
Does skin type matter?
No, as long is there is no obvious abnormality of the skin. It is not appropriate to inject if there is evidence of infection, inflammation, severe or uncontrolled acne, viral/herpes infection, fever blisters, or cold sores present.
How quickly could I see results?
With botulinum toxin the results will be noticed in 7-10 days. With dermal filler for lips, creases and mid face volume loss, results will be noticed immediately.
